Every December we look back on the past year to point out things we accomplished, remind ourselves of all we’ve done, and also share with you some things we worked on throughout the year.

While 2020 was challenging for many, including us, we still have much to be grateful for.

Here are our 10 favorite things that happened to us in 2020.

#10 – Video Content

We are excited about the video content we produced in 2020 and are extremely excited to offer more video content production in 2021. These high-quality videos are used to tell customer stories, establish brand credibility and make businesses look good. Take a look at some of the videos we produced in 2020 and see if you’d like us to produce videos for you in 2021.

#9 – Website Management

We’ve performed website management as an added service for years, but now we are providing this service for more businesses than ever. Welborn Media Website Management can take care of your domain registration, hosting, website design, site security, regular backups, website updates and much more.

#8 – Zeb’s Speaking Engagements

In 2020, Zeb continued to speak at conferences and workshops throughout the Western United States. This year, Zeb spoke in numerous workshops with San Bernardino County Workforce Development, the Southern California Professional Golf Association, was a keynote speaker at the California Placement Association’s Annual Conference and, of course, the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Zeb has gained a reputation for providing practical information that attendees can apply to their business immediately while also being entertaining and friendly. Zeb’s speaking engagements and workshops are always highly rated.

#7 – Golf is Good

Zeb serves on the Advisory Board of the California Golf Course Owners Association. The CGCOA has worked to initiate a campaign to help highlight the great things golf can bring to people, the environment and local communities.

We took it upon ourselves to help create a video highlighting the great things golf does in a Golf is Good campaign video. The video is receiving national exposure for the CGCOA and helping tell the story of how Golf is Good in California.

#6 – Chamber Golf Tournament

For the past five years, Zeb and a team of volunteers have planned the Southern California Charity Golf Classic. This year, they transitioned the SCCGC to the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament. We are pleased to announce that the tournament was sold out and our participants enjoyed socially distanced golf on a beautiful day and a virtual banquet that included golf commentary from their round provided by a true Scotsman.

#5 – Zeb Surprised at Zoom Meeting

This year Zeb ran Zoom meetings to replace the usual Business@Breakfast events put on by the chamber. The events provide education for local business persons and a chance to network.

At one of the meetings many of the attendees collaborated to surprise Zeb with recognition and awards for his efforts to help strengthen the local business community during the Coronavirus pandemic. He, and the Chino Valley Chamber, received honors from:

  • U.S. Representative Gil Cisneros (California’s 39th Congressional District)
  • U.S. Representative Norma Torres (California’s 35th Congressional District)
  • the California State Legislature
  • County Supervisor Curt Hageman
  • Senator Ling Ling Chang
  • City of Chino Mayor Eunice Ulloa
  • City of Chino Hills City Manager Ben Montgomery
  • The Chino Valley Chamber Board of Directors & Ambassador Team
  • and many more

Hearing from so many people and organizations that his hard work makes a difference, Zeb was overwhelmed and full of gratitude.

The surprise starts at about the 35 minute mark:

#4 – New Clients

We added many new clients this year. We are always grateful and thrilled to work with new people to help them grow their business using digital marketing. For those of you that became new clients this year … thank you! We love working with you and look forward to continuing to work together for years to come.

#3 – San Bernardino County Business Consulting

With the County of San Bernardino Workforce Development Department, Welborn Media has had the amazing opportunity to help local businesses who need help avoiding company layoffs and growing their business. We love this program as it gives us the opportunity to teach many businesses on digital marketing and also allows us to consult directly with five businesses a year to help them grow and maintain their workforce. We are grateful for the chance to help even more passionate business owners in San Bernardino County.

#2 – Outstanding Citizen of the Year

Champion Newspapers named Zeb Welborn the Outstanding Citizen of the Year. They said, “Mr. Welborn was chosen for his work helping struggling local businesses during the coronavirus pandemic.” Read the article, click here.

#1 – Hello Leonardo!

On Halloween Eve in 2020, we met Leonardo!

Zeb and Cindy welcomed their baby boy into the world. His siblings Sebastain and Elena were excited to meet their new baby brother. Leonardo is a sweet, alert baby much loved by his entire extended family.

Super Simple Secrets to Business Blog Writing Success

The owner of Welborn Social Media and the founder of The Tutoring Solution. My goal is to help business owners share the passion they have for their business with as many potential customers as possible.By helping passionate people achieve their dreams I am helping to create a society of passionate leaders that will help inspire others to make their dreams a reality.

My first website launched in 2010. I remember the feeling of excitement as my business could now be found on the world wide web by customers all over the world.

I imagined the phone ringing off the hook, more customers than I could handle and making my first million by the end of the year.

My sister and business partner, Lacey built The Tutoring Solution website. Fortunately for me she installed Google Analytics so we could track exactly how many visitors we had coming to our website.

The Tutoring Solution Business Blog Writing

At the end of the week, I saw my website had three visitors – likely my Mom, Dad and brother.

The harsh reality set in – this was going to take more work than I thought.

I heard blog writing could help get your website ranking in the search engines so I committed myself to writing a blog post every day for six months.

My website starting showing up in the search engines, my phone began ringing off the hook, I took on more customers than I could handle and while not yet a millionaire, my businesses have averaged 50% growth over the last seven years.

Since that first website, Lacey and I have set up, built and executed blogs for ourselves, for companies we represent and helped new business bloggers get started with theirs.

Blog Writing by the Numbers:

Blog writing has grown my business, but it’s also become a critical tool for businesses large and small.

A good metric to determine the importance of blogging in the global marketplace is to see where marketers are spending their time, efforts and money.

In surveys conducted with marketers by Social Media Examiner, The Content Marketing Institute, Gartner and Socialeemedia, they found:

  • 45% of marketers say blogging is their #1 most important content strategy
  • 70% of business to business (B2B) marketers plan to create more content in 2017 than 2016
  • 28% of marketers have reduced their advertising budget to fund more digital marketing
  • Marketers who prioritize blogging are 13 times more likely to realize a positive ROI

In terms of making purchasing decisions marketing companies Stratabeat and Lenati found that:

  • 80% of business decision makers prefer to get company information in a series of articles versus an advertisement
  • 67% of the typical B2B journey is now done digitally
  • 90% of B2B buyers say online content has a moderate to major effect on their purchasing decisions

Marketers and decision-makers both agree about the importance of online content in the sales cycle. To thrive in today’s environment, a digital marketing campaign is critical.

Learn why having a business blog is important, how to get it started, how to create content, and how to make money from it.

“Chino Rotary Club Celebrates 92 Years of Service with Dinner/Auction Fundraiser”

Chino Rotary Dinner & Auction

Since February 1925, Rotary has been saving lives both close to home and around the world by tapping into a global network of service clubs dedicated to raise funds and awareness for challenges such as poverty, illiteracy, polio eradication, clean water and sanitation, and malnutrition just to name a few. The Chino Rotary Club is part of that global network that has united many great minds around a shared purpose: “To improve the quality of life in our community.” With a long history of involvement and financial support for local programs, the Chino Rotary Club aims at making 2017 a year to expand their support of community and international projects by hosting an array of fundraisers during the year that will help the club do what it does best, give!

“This year our goal is to raise $30,000 for Youth Leadership Camps, Entrepreneurial Training, Music, Essay and Speech Competitions for our local high school students, food, clothing and childcare for Chino Valley residents in need, basic commodities to support our active military troops, and new to our list of philanthropy endeavors is to support those who have been victims of human trafficking,” said Melinda Robbins, MBA President of the Chino Rotary Club. “We will meet this aggressive goal by starting our fundraising efforts with our 2017 Annual Dinner & Auction,” she concluded.

The Dinner and Auction’s theme is “The Heart of Chino – A Legacy of Service” which truly denotes the local club’s mission to give and serve. This event will be held on Thursday February 23, 2017 at the Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills from 6-9pm. Tickets for this event cost $35 per person and can be purchased online through Eventbrite.com under Dinner/Auction Fundraiser or purchased at the Chino Champion Office located at 13179 9th Street in Chino. Everyone is welcomed to attend this fun-filled Dinner and Auction Fundraiser.

The Chino Rotary Club is also seeking event sponsors and accepting items for the Silent and Live Auctions. “We seek the help of community sponsors to partner with our Club at various monetary levels to help us make a significant and sustainable difference in our community and together leave a lasting impact,” said Zeb Welborn President-elect of the Chino Rotary Club.

For more information about being an event sponsor or providing items for the auction, please call Melinda Robbins at 909-491-4791 or Zeb Welborn at 909-973-9089.

Let Zeb know if you plan on attending, send an email to Zeb@WelbornMedia.com.

How Donald Trump Won the Presidency with Twitter

The owner of Welborn Social Media and the founder of The Tutoring Solution. My goal is to help business owners share the passion they have for their business with as many potential customers as possible.By helping passionate people achieve their dreams I am helping to create a society of passionate leaders that will help inspire others to make their dreams a reality.

“The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about.” – Oscar Wilde

Regardless of how you feel about the election results from last night, you just saw our political system go through a drastic shift.

Our President-Elect, Donald Trump, made controversial statement after controversial statement throughout the campaign and – every time – our political pundits said he was done. He would not recover.

But, he did recover.

Not only did he recover, but he continued to make more and more controversial statements and each time his influence grew.

His campaign is a testament to the new age of marketing. The power of social media.

Donald Trump’s strategy was to make sure eyes, ears and minds were on him and only him.

His strategy worked and it will work for your business.

Trump’s campaign relied on one simple premise:

“There is no such thing as bad publicity except your own obituary.” – Brendan Behan

If you’ve ever thought to yourself social media doesn’t work, it’s a waste of time, or it can’t help to grow my business, Trump just proved you wrong. Trump used social media to persuade our country.

In a traditional campaign, any number of Trump’s controversial remarks would have doomed his run for the presidency, yet he thrived.

With each tweet, Trump defied conventional thinking and the reason it worked is because his controversial statements dominated the headlines nearly every day of the campaign election cycle. Nearly every late night talk show host, news anchor, newspaper, magazine and media outlet mentioned Trump on a daily basis.

The free press Trump received far surpassed the mentions of Hillary Clinton throughout the entire election. Whether good, or bad, Trump was on the minds of the American people and we have social media to thank.

As the results were being read last night, many pointed to the fact that this election would “rewrite the history books.” Its ramifications will reverberate throughout the future of political campaigns.

In every debate, Facebook and Twitter were mentioned – they even had a selfie spot at my polling place.

Donald Trump Social Media Strategy

Those engaging in discussions on Facebook and Twitter permeated news feeds and those who proactively supported or endorsed either candidate influenced our election.

If you’re active on social media you’re an influencer. You have the ability to persuade others to your way of thinking in today’s connected age. If your business is active on social media, you have the ability to persuade your customers to choose you over another company.

And when they choose you, you have the ability to generate a “base” of followers who will overwhelmingly support you and your brand. So much so, that they’ll take to Twitter, to Facebook and to other social channels to tell everyone just how great you are.

Do you want to succeed in our new economy? Copy Donald Trump and use social media to grow your business.

Welborn Media’s Top Ten List of 2015

At the end of the year, the Welborn Media team gets together to reflect on our successes and failures throughout the year. This meeting gives us an opportunity to fine-tune our direction and set new goals for the upcoming year.  These are the Top 10 things we accomplished in 2015.

Top 10 of 2015

10. Share Your Passion Scholarships

scholarshipsSince starting the Share Your Passion Scholarships in 2012, we’ve awarded scholarships to 17 deserving students. We have kept in contact with many scholarship winners and are still inspired by them. They continue to work towards following their passions and helping better the lives of others. This year we awarded 3 Share Your Passion Scholarships and gave out our first Student of the Year Scholarship Award to one of the hardest working students at The Tutoring Solution.

9. TV Appearance

We’ve met so many amazing and passionate people working to grow golf.  A highlight of #GolfChat in 2015 was when professional golfer, Natalie Gulbis surprised #GolfChatters by giving away free tickets to the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay Golf Course.

Do You Have an Entrepreneurial Mindset or an Employee Mindset?

The owner of Welborn Social Media and the founder of The Tutoring Solution. My goal is to help business owners share the passion they have for their business with as many potential customers as possible.By helping passionate people achieve their dreams I am helping to create a society of passionate leaders that will help inspire others to make their dreams a reality.

Charlotte Clary and Beverly Vines-Haines were two grandmas who started close to thirty different businesses which all ended up failing . .  until they hit it big with Ice Chips Candy.  The world was introduced to Charlotte and Beverly when they were featured as the entrepreneurs who invented Ice Chips Candy on ABC’s hit TV show, Shark Tank.

Beverly Vines-Haines, Charlotte Clary and Ice Chips Candy. An Entrepreneurial Mindset.

Beverly Vines-Haines, Charlotte Clary and Ice Chips Candy

If you talk to many business owners, many of them will say, “I am unemployable.”  The reason for that is that these people who are entrepreneurial have figured out a way to make a living without becoming an employee.  They then use their time to work, and work, and work to create and test new ideas until they find the idea that will lead to their ultimate success.  Some people become successful on their first business, but most business owners who have become successful have started numerous ventures until they hit the one that makes them a success.

The Tutoring Solution | Chino Hills, Chino, Corona, Norco, Eastvale, Southern California

The Tutoring Solution

My first business is The Tutoring Solution.  We are a local tutoring company that serves Chino, Chino Hills, Corona, Eastvale and numerous other cities in Southern California.  I learned the skills I needed to create a successful business by building and growing The Tutoring Solution.  I still own The Tutoring Solution and hired my then girlfriend and now wife, Cynthia De La Torre to become the director of the business and to manage it.  The skills I learned while building the tutoring business directly led me to starting Welborn Media, devoted toward helping passionate business owners use the Internet to become more successful.  Welborn Media has even grown to expand to include 19th Hole Media and the Defining Success Podcast.  I have been bitten by the entrepreneurial bug and now I’m honing and growing my craft . . . working to make my business more successful every day.

A great example of someone who has an entrepreneurial mindset is my father-in-law who owns his own agricultural business. He grew up in Mexico and as a young boy of probably five years old, he would work to sell gum on street corners . . . his first taste of entrepreneurship.  When he came to America, he got a job at a young age in the agricultural business where he learned and cultivated his craft.  Others saw him as someone with a strong work ethic and someone who achieved results.  As a result, he was given more responsibilities and more pay until he was able to afford to purchase a piece of land where he could grow and sell ground cover at his business, DLT Growers.  His entrepreneurial mindset led him down the path towards a career in entrepreneurship and he’s constantly thinking of new ideas and new ways to grow and expand his business and even create new opportunities for others.

DLT Growers sells ground cover in Southern California

DLT Growers

Charlotte Clary and Beverly Vines-Haines are two of my favorite entrepreneurs.  For those of you that are unfamiliar with Ice Chips Candy, they are natural mints which are broken up into uneven pieces.  The way they explained it on Shark Tank, they painted the picture that they created this product in their garage and were breaking up these pieces by hand with a hammer in their home.  It’s a visual which always reminds me that becoming successful takes hard work, discipline and a willingness to get your hands dirty.  Charlotte and Beverly are a great example of entrepreneurs who fought and fought and fought until they hit it big.

There is a big difference between entrepreneurs and employees . . . the most important being in their mindset.

An entrepreneurial mindset is being someone who is constantly willing to make mistakes, learn from them and grow as a result. They are continually leaving their comfort zone, and experimenting with trial and error.  Most employees, I’ve found, are in the mindset of avoiding mistakes.  Employees who make mistakes are typically reprimanded for doing so and thus they lose some of their creativity in the process.  An entrepreneur is constantly making mistakes, failing at things and learning from them.
